Suffolk County Coaches Association Scholarship

December 6, 2018

The Joshua Butzke Outstanding Midfielder Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Joshua Butzke who played midfielder for Comsewogue High School from 2006-2009.

Josh was an outstanding soccer player who earned All-Region, All State, All Long Island, and league MVP honors in both his junior and senior years at Comsewogue, while helping his team win back to back state championship titles.

But Josh’s real legacy was his ability to make the players around him better. He was the ultimate team player- his goal was the win, not his personal stats. Newsday said, “ Butzke, a pinpoint passer, was the major playmaker for Comsewogue.”

While Josh excelled in soccer, and would go on to play four years at D1 Bucknell University, he understood the value of teamwork, getting an education, and living life to the fullest. Josh began a successful career outside of soccer where he supported many charitable and education initiatives and believed in giving back to the community.

The recipient of this scholarship is a player who exemplifies character both on and off the field. He puts team first, works hard and has the vision to do what it takes to succeed in soccer and beyond.

The first recipient in what will become an annual award is a midfielder from Commack High School, a second team All-Long Island player, with a 98 average and will be attending Binghamton University in the fall, congratulations to Tyler Meotti.
